Previous Exhibit - Juke Joints: "Live from the Mississippi Delta" by Panny Flautt Mayfield
04/01/2006 - 07/05/2006

Juke Joints: "Live from the Mississippi Delta" by journalist Panny Flautt Mayfield reflects the vibrant blues scene in Clarksdale and the Delta area for the past two decades.
The new Juke Joint collection is Mayfield's fourth one-artist exhibit. Mayfield is a lifelong resident of the Mississippi Delta who grew up in Tutwiler and has been photographing and supporting blues and gospel musicians at festivals, churches, clubs and juke joints for more than 20 years.
Although the exhibit includes photographs of celebrities Robert Plant and Charlie Musselwhite having fun in blues clubs while paying tribute to the roots of their music, the exhibit primarily focuses on local bluesmen performing before friends and hometown audiences. Included are photos of Big Jack Johnson, Super Chikan Johnson, the Jelly Roll Kings, C.V. Veal, Terry Williams, the Wesley Jefferson Band, and many more.
Mayfield says the Juke Joint photos are for sale, and proceeds will be divided evenly among musicians and/or primary subjects featured in the photographs being sold and the artist.
Recognized with more than 30 awards of excellence from the Mississippi Press Association, the Associated Press, the Mississippi Film Commission, and the College Public Relations Association of Mississippi, Mayfield is public relations director at Coahoma Community College. She is a former features editor of The Clarksdale Press Register. Her works have appeared in numerous national publications including USA Weekend, The Washington Post, Jet, Living Blues and Bluespeak magazines. A charter member and publicist for the Sunflower River Blues Association and recipient of the Early Wright Blues Heritage award, she was a speaker on blues photography at the 2006 Living Blues Symposium at Ole Miss.
