KEEPING THE BEAT

Delta Blues Newsletter February, 2020

Director's Note

Dear Delta Blues Museum Supporters,
The Delta Blues Museum is officially 41 years old - and we are still growing! We have expanded our gallery space, our exhibits and our outreach.
I recently experienced one of the highlights of my tenure here at the Delta Blues Museum when I attended the 62nd annual GRAMMY Awards. It was an incredible experience to be among so much musical talent from so many genres. Tears of joy flooded my eyes when our very own Christone "Kingfish" Ingram's name appeared onscreen at the top of the list of five nominations for "Traditional Blues Album."
To celebrate the American roots nominees, the Folk Alliance International, the International Bluegrass Music Association and the Blues Foundation hosted a pre-GRAMMY event at which Christone (pictured at right, above) performed. Watching the audience's reaction to his performance renewed my strength in the important work that we do here at Delta Blues Museum and how so much talent has its roots in Clarksdale and Mississippi.
Come see us soon at the Crossroads!

IN THE GIFT SHOP

Clarksdale residents and visitors to the Delta Blues Museum have heard Blues phenom Christone "Kingfish" Ingram play blazing sets at local venues such as Red's and Ground Zero Blues Club. Now, blues lovers around the world can hear this young artist's new take on traditional Delta blues on Kingfish, his debut CD. The Grammy-nominated disc includes contributions by Buddy Guy ("Fresh Out") and Keb Mo', who duets on "Listen" and adds rhythm and slide guitar on several other tracks. All 12 tracks are Kingfish originals, adding his own individual style to influences ranging from B.B. King to Jimi Hendrix. As Alligator Records president Bruce Iglauer says, "He's creating new music that feels like the blues but doesn't copy what's already been done." ...Gift Shop offerings updated weekly, so keep checking back!

Kingfish is available in the DBM Gift Shop-- order your copy today!
