KEEPING THE BEAT
The Official Newsletter of the Delta Blues Museum
WELCOME TO MUDDY WATERS MONTH...
...and welcome, Juke Joint Festival fans!
This year's Juke Joint Festival will be held April 15 - 18th in Clarksdale, and Delta Blues Museum is offering special hours and safety measures for visitors:
THURSDAY, April 15th: Open from 10AM - 5PM
FRIDAY, April 16th (online reservations required): Open from 10AM - 6PM
SATURDAY, April 17th (online reservations required): Open from 10AM - 6PM
SUNDAY, April 18th: Open from 10AM - 3PM
Current Museum guidelines will permit 20 people at a time (per online reservation, see below) to visit the gallery every hour. While we can accommodate more visitors in the gallery, the Gift Shop capacity is currently limited to 15. If there is overlap, the gallery is spacious enough to accommodate.
VISITATION POLICY:
Friday and Saturday admission reservations must be made online. A Museum representative will be stationed next to our main entrance to assist visitors in making their online reservations, checking in guests with reservations and ensuring all visitors are wearing a mask. Guests who are solely interested in shopping will be accommodated as space allows.
UPCOMING EXHIBIT: TRUMPET RECORDS
COMING SOON! Delta Blues Museum was awarded funds by the Mississippi Delta National Heritage Area (MDNHA) to create an exhibit and new website feature that chronicles the history of Jackson-based Trumpet Records, founded and developed by Lillian McMurry, and follows the success of its Delta-based artists.
More from Museum Director Shelley Ritter: "We are excited to have the opportunity to share the history of Trumpet Records and the amazing woman behind it: Lillian Shedd McMurry - with no prior experience in the music industry - opened a record store, launched a record label, and ran a recording studio where she produced, promoted, and engineered many Blues classics by artists such as Elmore James, Big Joe Williams, and Sonny Boy Williamson. We are thrilled that the Mississippi Delta National Heritage Area has provided funding for us to share the history of Trumpet Records through an 'Explore and Learn Feature' as well as an in-house and traveling exhibit. Lilian Shedd McMurry's work and the amazing talent she recorded continue to shape music history today."
"Like" and follow our Facebook page and Instagram to stay tuned for the launch of the Trumpet Records online feature!
