MONDAY, JULY 24:
Movie Night: Ode to Billy Joe (1976)

Based on the song written by Mississippian Bobbie Gentry, the film tells the fictional story of "the day that Billy Joe McCallister jumped off the Tallahatchie Bridge," which is located within an hour of Clarksdale. Museum highlights will feature an Artist Spotlight on Tallahatchie County's own Sonny Boy Williamson as well as an exhibit on Sonny Boy in the gallery along with a "King Biscuit Time" display.

All sponsored "Movie Nights" are official Mississippi Bicentennial Celebration events and are free and open to the public at the DBM stage, with a brief commentary by filmmaker Coop Cooper prior to screening; in case of inclement weather, the films will be shown in the upstairs meeting room of the museum, which is ADA accessible. Guests are encouraged to bring their own seating - each screening will start at approximately 8:00pm.

THURSDAY, JULY 27:
John Lee Hooker Exhibit "Endless Boogie" opening reception

The exhibit features guitars, gear, and many personal items owned by the musician, as well as rare 78s.

Q&A with Panny Flautt Mayfield, author of LIVE FROM THE MISSISSIPPI DELTA

Join the award-winning journalist and life-long Delta resident as she discusses her first book - a collection of rare photographs and stories about musicians from Robert Plant, B.B. King and ZZ Top to local Mississippi artists, documenting decades of blues and gospel music from the author's career as a live music photographer.

As part of our John Lee Hooker Centennial programming and as an official Mississippi Bicentennial Celebration event, the Grammy award-winning musician and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee will join host Jim O'Neal to share his thoughts on John Lee Hooker's legacy and the "State of the Blues".

Panny Flautt Mayfield will offer additional Q&A sessions on her new book, Live from the Mississippi Delta, before and after Mr. Musselwhite's talk.

Established in 1979 by the Carnegie Public Library Board of Trustees and re-organized as a stand-alone museum in 1999, the Delta Blues Museum is Mississippi's oldest music museum and the nation's first museum dedicated to the American art form known as the Blues. A 2013 recipient of the IMLS National Medal for Museum and Library Services--the nation's highest honor for museum and library service to the community--and a 2014 winner of the National Arts & Humanities Youth Program Award, the Delta Blues Museum is dedicated to creating a welcoming place where visitors find meaning, value and perspective by exploring the history and heritage of the unique American musical art form, the Blues. The Museum is honored to be a Great River Road Interpretive Center.
