Celebrating Women in the Blues

March is International Women’s Month, so the Delta Blues Museum is turning the spotlight on women in the blues.

Visit our gallery and you’ll find exhibits about Bessie Smith, Jessie Mae Hemphill, Big Mama Thornton and Ma Rainey. Special displays highlight the history of Trumpet Records, founded by Lillian McMurry, and Margaret’s Blue Diamond Lounge, a legendary juke joint in Clarksdale.

From our Gift Shop, check out CDs by Etta James and Sister Rosetta Tharpe, well as by Smith and Thornton; new posters of those artists; and a card set of blues bios/portraits, “Legends of the Blues.”

All women in the blues items are specially priced for March, Women’s History Month.

The Museum appreciates your patronage and support - thank you!
