DELTA BLUES MUSEUM JOINS

SMITHSONIAN MAGAZINE'S 13TH ANNUAL "MUSEUM DAY LIVE!"

CLARKSDALE, MISSISSIPPI

[Clarksdale, Mississippi - September 12, 2017] - Delta Blues Museum will open its doors free of charge on Saturday, September 23, 2017, as part of Smithsonian magazine's thirteenth annual Museum Day Live!, an initiative in which participating museums across the United States emulate the spirit of the Smithsonian Institution's Washington DC-based facilities, which offer free admission every day, and open their doors for free to those who download a Museum Day Live! ticket.

Smithsonian recognizes the extraordinary power of museums, and other cultural institutions, to provide visitors with insight and inspiration. The event represents a nationwide commitment to boundless curiosity and the pursuit of knowledge wherever you are. Over 200,000 people downloaded tickets for last year's event, and this year's event is expected to attract more museum-goers than ever before.

"As the world's first museum devoted entirely to the Blues, we are excited to partner with the world's largest museum and research complex - the Smithsonian - in this important initiative," offers Delta Blues Museum Director Shelley Ritter. "'Museum Day Live' offers a great opportunity for people to visit those museums they haven't yet experienced. Museums are relevant, dynamic cultural centers, and 'Museum Day Live' helps to promote this message."

The Museum Day Live! ticket is available for download at Smithsonian.com/museumday. Visitors who present the Museum Day Live! ticket will gain free entrance for two at participating venues on September 23, 2017. One ticket per email address is permitted. About the Delta Blues Museum

Established in 1979 by the Carnegie Public Library Board of Trustees and re-organized as a stand-alone museum in 1999, the Delta Blues Museum is Mississippi's oldest music museum. A 2013 recipient of the IMLS National Medal for Museum and Library Services - the nation's highest honor for museum and library service to the community - and a 2014 recipient of the National Arts & Humanities' Youth Program Award, the Delta Blues Museum is dedicated to creating a welcoming place where visitors find meaning, value and perspective by exploring the history and heritage of the unique American musical art form, the Blues. The Museum is honored to be a Great River Road Interpretive Center.

The "Delta Blues Foundation" is a qualified 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization that supports the work of Delta Blues Museum. All funds solicited through the Delta Blues Foundation are raised to benefit the Delta Blues Museum. On-line tax deductible contributions to the Delta Blues Foundation include the Deeper Roots program and the General Fund (a monetarily unrestricted contribution made to the foundation in support of the museum). Memberships and the Buy a Brick program are funded directly to the Delta Blues Museum and are not considered tax deductible.
