Delta Blues
Press Release
July 11, 2013
CLARKSDALE, MS (July 11, 2013) - The
Delta Blues Museum is set to receive a $27,000 grant from
the Mississippi Arts Commission (MAC). This grant is a portion of the $1.27M in grants that the Commission will award in 2013 - 2014 and will be used for general operating support of the Clarksdale museum. MAC grants are made possible by continued funding from the Mississippi State Legislature and the National Endowment for the Arts.
"The creative economy has never been more vibrant than it is today in the communities across Mississippi," stated Sallye Killebrew, Interim Executive Director at MAC. "This agency is honored to play a small role in assisting these organizations to continue their work of reinforcing the value of the arts and the role they play in creative place-making and economic development."
About
the Delta Blues Museum
Established in 1979 by the Carnegie
Public Library Board of Trustees and re-organized as a stand-alone
museum in 1999, the Delta Blues Museum is Mississippi's
oldest music museum. A 2013 recipient of the IMLS National
Medal for Museum and Library Services--the nation's highest
honor for museums and libraries, for service to the community--the
Delta Blues Museum is dedicated to creating a welcoming
place where visitors find meaning, value and perspective
by exploring the history and heritage of the unique American
musical art form, the Blues. Outside of operational
funding grants, the Museum's current DEEPER ROOTS campaign
seeks $1.2 million for new and enhanced exhibits for Phase
II of its expansion--which includes the new Muddy Waters
Addition--enabling the Museum to better preserve and display
the history and work of Blues artists from the Mississippi
Delta, and advancing the Museum's ability to "tell" stories
that inspire and educate future generations about this important
American art form. Find out more at www.deltabluesmuseum.org/deeperroots.
