The
Delta Blues Museum
invites the public
to visit our newest
exhibit "Give
My Poor Heart Ease:
Voices of the Mississippi
Blues" featuring
a collection of prints
from folklorist William
Ferris's new book of
the same name.
Ferris, who donated the set of 45 prints to the Delta Blues Museum, is
the Joel R. Williamson Eminent Professor of History at the University
of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the senior associate director of
its Center for the Study of the American South.
Give
My Poor Heart Ease is
a documentary record
of Ferris's home state
during the 1960s and
'70s, illustrated with
Ferris's photographs
of Mississippi musicians
and their communities
and includes a CD of
original music and a
DVD of original film.
The book also features
more than 20 interviews
relating frank, dramatic
and engaging first-person
narratives about black
life and blues music
in the heart of the American
South.
Signed copies of Give My Poor Heart Ease: Voices of the Mississippi Blues
(University of North Carolina Press, Fall 2009) $35.00, are available
for purchase in the museum gift shop.
The
exhibit is sponsored
by the Community Foundation
of Northwest Mississippi,
Mississippi Arts Commission
and the Friends of the
Delta Blues Museum.
